1987 - 1993 Fox Mustang Rear
Suspension Bolt Sizes
With the age of the Fox body Mustang, the bolts in the rear suspension have
probably become rusted. To make replacement easy when installing new
control arms or even making a simple repair, I've measured out the following
bolts sizes. The original equipment bolts are metric and measure 12.9 in
strength. There are a few bolts where I needed to improvise and there
sizes are noted.
Quad shock axle housing mounting bolts (12mm x 1.75 x 70mm).
Quad shock frame side bolts welded to a bracket - no simple replacement (new bracket w/ bolt needed).
Rear shock axle housing mounting bolts (12mm x 1.75 x 70mm).
Rear shock tower mounting bolt (part of the shock itself, no replacement other than a new shock).
Upper control arm axle housing bolts (12mm x 1.75 x 80mm).
Lower control arm axle housing bolts (12mm x 1.75 x 100mm).
With a Maximum Motorsports panhard rod, use
(12mm x 1.75 x 120mm) on the lower bracket side.
Brake backing plate or caliper bracket bolts (3/8" x 1.25"). This is what I
used, probably not the original size. However, the holes at the end of the
axle housing to mount the plate to is 3/8" in diameter. A one inch bolt was
just a hair short for me once you add a lock washer and nut.
Brake caliper bolts to mount the rear Bear brake calipers (original equipment
on 1988-1996 Corvettes caliper) to the bracket (12mm x 1.75 x 20mm).
